Georgia O'Keefe Monster

So, Georgia is my newest little monster in my series of Artist inspired monsters. I have finished four- but have a couple more that I think I want to include (how much fun would it be to make a Warhol monster!!!)Anyway, back to Georgia. What I love most about Georgia is the way she is fiercely independent, strong, capable, and at the same time vulnerable and feminine. For me, the image Georgia created for herself was just as beautiful as all of her artwork. So what inspired my Georgia monster???
I of course started with her hat and scarf, cow skull and then included the flowers.
and then I found this picture, and knew I needed to include some cute shoes!
Alfred Stieglitz took this photo - I love it!
This last picture I took of Georgia's house in Santa Fe. One day I will move to Santa Fe. The light is so amazing. It is no wonder that Georgia fell in love with the place.

If you would like an excellent book to introduce Georgia to your children, I highly recommend "Georgia's Bones."The illustrations are striking, but what I like most about this book is the way it teaches children to look at the world around them with new eyes. On one page, the author talks about how Georgia liked to look at the sky through a donut. The book introduces the concept of negative space beautifully. My daughter loves this book - and so do I.

On another note, I was so happy this morning to see that my monsters were featured on small for big.com. What a great way to wake up! Hope the rest of the day is just as wonderful for all of us!

Meet Grrr nica- Picasso monster!

I decided that for my newest set of monsters, I would take my inspiration from artists that I love. I actually love a lot of obscure artists, so decided that it would probably be better to choose artists that I love that others love as well:-)

It is a lot more difficult than I thought to create a monster that others would recognize as inspired by Picasso- but I had a ton of fun trying. In the end, this little monster is one of my favorites.
My favorite Picasso painting is Guernica, which is a pretty tragic painting to inspire a fun piece of child friendly art... but I think I managed to capture the bull figure a bit in my horns and eyes.

I also knew I wanted to include Picasso's signature striped shirt.

So, do you think I captured him in my little monster?

Valentines Day Give Away

I was so excited about One World One Heart- Last year, I visited over 900 blogs, met some amazing artists, and had a fabulous time. I barely noticed that I didn't actually win anything- because I felt so much richer for having experienced it... and I couldn't wait to take part in it again this year.....
Then, I got sick. Not just a little sick. Super Duper Sick. The kind of sick where you can't even go to the doctor because you can't stand up. Ever since my son started day care, the family has been battling one illness or another. My husband finally convinced me to go to see my doctor, who immediately put me in a wheel chair and took my to the emergency room next door. I received tons of tests, a couple of bags of IV fluids, and they waited for my blood pressure to normalize so I could go home. What a mess!
Before you have kids, I don't think you realize how good you have it when you are sick. The days of just lying in bed moaning are long gone. Someone always needs you, whether you are sick or not. My son and daughter don't understand my limitations- they only know what they need. My husband made a valiant effort to give me space to get better, but he is only human- He took wonderful care of the children, but our home looked a bit like it had been ransacked by pirates. So after a week of feeling like utter death, I needed to heal quickly so I could begin to deal with the aftermath.
All this being said, I missed One World One Heart. I remember at one point, sitting at the computer and trying to complete a post- and realizing that I couldn't. I am beginning to trust in myself- and realize that I can't do everything. I can only do my best- which changes from day to day.But I do want to post a give away- maybe a Valentines Day Giveaway:-) So, I am giving a way a pair of 5 x 7 prints- my hope and dream monsters. If you would like to enter, just leave a comment below. I will choose a winner on February 28th at midnight. I will probably include a couple of other goodies in your package, just because I am like that. Hope to hear from you!
